The Global Formation Event is coming to the Minneapolis Area Synod this weekend, on Friday and Saturday May 2nd and 3rd at Calvary Lutheran in Golden Valley, MN. Pastor Heather Hammond and I (Rachel Swan) will be there and would love to see you! We’ll be hanging out in the Mission Interpretation breakout track (Friday from 3:30pm to 6pm and Saturday from 10am to noon).

These sessions will be led by Mark Quade and Andrea Arey - both amazing and passionate teachers and speakers. At this event, participants will:

  • Enhance your connections with the worldwide Lutheran family
  • Gain practical skills for mission
  • Give, receive, and serve more effectively
  • Discover how changes in the world are transforming the way churches like the ELCA proclaim and serve
  • Learn to inviting worship that includes global voices
  • Travel internationally in a way that is effective, sustainable, respectful, and cross-culturally sensitive

Mark Quade
Mark Quade is an ELCA stewardship specialist based In La Crosse, Wisconsin and serving ELCA congregations and synods in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, North and South Dakota, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

A graduate of St Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, Mark has a background in communication. He worked in television news for 18 years, and taught communications at St Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota. Prior to joining the ELCA, Mark was an Agency Resource Manager with Lutheran Brotherhood.

Mark has extensive training and experience, and is available to:

  • Work with synods in developing stewardship strategies
  • Assist synods and congregations in establishing Mission Interpreter programs
  • Coordinate congregational asset-based planning for stewardship and ministry development
  • Serve as an outside leader for Consecration Sunday
  • Coach congregations in Natural Church Development

Mark and his wife, Cindy, are parents of two grown sons, Corey and Tyler. They are members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Mark has served as congregation president, chair of the endowment committee, assisting minister, and member of the adult choir.
